Horse heaven in the heart of Darwin
Fannie Bay Equestrian Club is a place for horse owners, lessees and enthusiasts in the heart of Darwin. The club has a fascinating history which you can read about here. We also take the environmental state of the reserve very seriously, read about how the club contributes to the biodiversity of native wildlife here.
We have around 30, privately owned horses living on site and more than 110 members. FBEC allows many people to have a horse experience who otherwise wouldn't . For example, the pony Whippy has been teaching young children to ride for decades (she is well into her 20s!). She has 4 or 5 'Whippy families' at a time who each look after her 1 or 2 days per week. These part lease arrangements are an extremely affordable way to get involved in horses.
The majority of members are in family memberships. Our youngest regular vistor to the club is just a few months old, and our oldest .. well, no need to go into too much detail about that! Let's just say equestrian sport is for all ages, and so is our club.
Our paddock grazing system is excellent for the mental health of the horses, they get to 'relax and be horses' in the herd environment, to learn from each other and make firm friendships, just like their owners.
Competitive, cooperative, fun
Our members participate in various forms of equestrian sport: western, dressage, barrel racing, showjumping, hacking, lead classes, leisure riding.
One of our junior riders has represented the Northern Territory interstate in the National InterSchools competition. A senior member has been been recognised by the National Australian Quarter Horse Association several times.
Equally important are our young members who are just starting out, or senior members who are going back to riding. FBEC welcomes and supports riders of all ages and talents.
